Climate justice
Justice, equity and human rights are at the core of global climate action, which is grounded in the priorities and agency of those disproportionally impacted by climate change and responds to their needs.
Voices for Just Climate Action
VCA aims to ensure that by 2025, local civil society – and marginalized or vulnerable local groups – will have taken on a central role as creators, facilitators and advocates of innovative climate solutions.
ENERGIA
ENERGIA has supported more than 8,000 women entrepreneurs who have sold renewable energy products that provide almost four million people with access to affordable energy. The program puts gender at the center of the energy discussion.
GreenWorks
GreenWorks, implemented by an alliance led by Hivos, mitigates climate change by creating sustainable business and job opportunities for more than 9000 young people in the green economy in North Africa.
All Eyes on the Amazon
All Eyes on the Amazon supported the fight against deforestation and environmental degradation by defending the rights of Indigenous peoples and local communities. The program combines state-of-the-art technology with local knowledge.
Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
A more just, fair, dignified, and prosperous society, where all people have equal rights, responsibilities, and opportunities. A world where gender equality, inclusive economies and governance practices become the principle for organizing and building just societies.
Free to be Me
Free to be Me is an innovative program that builds and maintains a movement of self-confident and diverse LGBTIQ+ organizations and activists.
We Lead
Hivos aims to strengthen the influence and position of young women whose sexual and reproductive health and rights are neglected the most.
Voice
Voice is an innovative grant facility executed by Hivos and Oxfam Novib that connects and amplifies the voices of the most marginalized and discriminated people in 10 countries.
SRHR fund
This fund was established to fill the need for a strategic regional response to sexual reproductive health and rights issues in Southern Africa, particularly those faced by young people.
Civic Rights in a Digital Age
A public sphere where civic rights are protected, where inclusive public debate flourishes, and where people exercise influence and agency so that technology and public resources are used justly and responsibly.
Digital Defenders Partnership
Hosted by Hivos, DDP protects activists under (digital) attack and helps them navigate the digital highway safely, while strengthening rapid-response networks.
Resources of Open Minds (R.O.O.M)
We support artists and creative hubs around the world in diversifying dialogue and using the power of art to spark debates and bring about structural social change.
Voices and Actions for Accountability
This program strengthens the capacity of CSOs, media and government authorities in Malawi to gather evidence, analyse and publish on public procurement processes.
Freedom of Expression and Information
Hivos aims to support Tunisian journalists in fulfilling their important responsibility. Implemented in cooperation with the National Union of Tunisian Journalists
The Hivos organization
Hivos is managed by an Executive Board, made up of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Anne Jellema, and Chief Operations Officer (COO) Michel Farkas. The Management Team includes the heads of the Strategy and Impact Department and the Business Development Department, the directors of our four regional hubs in Latin America, East Africa, Southern Africa and the Middle East & North Africa, and some other management positions.
The Supervisory Council is chaired by Diana Monissen.
Hivos Theory of Change
Hivos values working with Theory of Change (ToC) as an appropriate approach to guide its strategic thinking and action, as well as its collaborative action with others. A Theory of Change approach can be used for different purposes, by different users, and at different moments in the cycle of developing, monitoring, reviewing or evaluating a program or strategy.
